February 24th Full Moon Intention & Affirmation

The full moon is upon us, so I have a new tarot curated intention and affirmation for us to work with.

This moon cycle I used the Enchanted Forest tarot, and we pulled Black Shuck (Death), the Weaver of Visions (Queen of Cups), and The Oldest One (The Hierophant). Be sure to have a look at the cards to see what they awaken in you, let’s dive in.

In all the years I’ve curated tarot inspired intentions and affirmations I don’t think I’ve pulled a single card so many times in such close succession. That’s right folks, we pulled the Death card again. Perhaps this moon cycle is an opportunity to unlock deeper lessons.

Intention: As the moon wanes, shed old baggage, free your mind, and welcome new perspectives.

Affirmation: Through transformation, I discover my true potential and create a life filled with purpose.

Black Shuck (Death Archetype): We’ve pulled this card so much lately I feel like many of us understand it’s an archetype of transformation, endings, change, rebirth, and hidden truths. The Black Shuck (devil or fiend in Old English) invites us to face inner demons, address secret fears, and tackle daunting tasks.

Consider the card's depiction - is the Black Shuck menacing or a guide? This card might urge you to confront fears or embrace inevitable change. Reflect on what areas of your life might need transformation or letting go. Toni Morrison says, “You wanna fly, you gotta give up the shit that weighs you down.” Life is short, don’t hold onto anything to your detriment.

Weaver of Visions (Queen of Cups Archetype): While we’ve been seeing the Death archetype a lot lately, it’s been a long time since we’ve pulled the Queen of Cups. At the surface this is an archetype of intuition, compassion, creativity, emotions, and relationships.

If we go deeper, this archetype emphasizes the power of intuition, dreams, and creative expression. Creativity beckons us to perceive things from fresh angles, revealing solutions that were once elusive. Like a meandering river, creativity yearns to flow. Imagine how it might usher more fluidity into your life.

Through our actions, we are all "weaving" a vision for the future. What are you weaving right now? When’s the last time you stepped back and looked at what you created? By embracing creativity, you can authentically express yourself. Consider the transformative power this might hold.

The Oldest One (Hierophant Archetype): I’ve always had a strained relationship with the Hierophant. I associate it with outdated belief systems, institutional knowledge, and conformity. While it’s true that this archetype has a dark side, there’s more to it than harmful archaic beliefs.

Consider the card's depiction - is the Oldest One a teacher, elder, an aspect of the natural world? Because the card depicts the Hierophant as an ancient tree, I’m more inclined to want to connect to it. I know nature holds ancient wisdom that I can rely on. How about you?

In her book Tarot for the Hard Work an Archetypal Journey to Confront Racism and Inspire Collective Healing, Maria Minnis says, “The Hierophant is an intersection, a crossroads. They stand between the past and the future as they learn, integrate, and teach at the same time. Their knowledge of the past enlightens their faith in the future, the faith that what they do today delivers the results of tomorrow.”

If the Hierophant is about reflecting on past knowledge, integrating new wisdom, and examining one’s belief systems, maybe it isn’t an oppressive archetype after all. In times of great change, it’s not a bad idea to seek guidance from mentors, learn from the past, and nurture heart centered values.

Don’t forget you can dive more deeply into this moon cycles intention and affirmation by listening to the Blooming Wand podcast. On the latest episode I share the top three things I do to support myself during times of change, as well as a poem that perfectly aligns with the archetypes we’re exploring this moon cycle.

How’s it going in your world? Do share, you know I love to hear from you.
